Storyline:

Hindering the election of the new president is an attempt by The Coordination Framework to force Muqtada Al-Sadr to let them be part of the new government in accordance with the consensus of winning candidates and the political participation practice being followed for many years. However Al-Sadr is determined to form a national consensus government.  The Coordination Framework aims to form a joint committee with the Sadr bloc to elect a new prime minister. On the other hand, The Sovereignty Alliance and The Kurdistan Democratic Party are committed to their association with the Sadr bloc as part of The Saving the Homeland Coalition. Ihsan Al-Shamari, head of Al-Tafkir Political Center believes that Al-Sadr was able to win against The Coordination Framework through hindering the formation of a new government. He said that the next step will be forcing The Coordination Framework to form a national consensus government without interference or opposition.

Soundbite (Ayat Al-Mudhafar – Member of the Victory Coalition):

“We are getting closer to the next stage and out of the suffocating state we were living in. After the formation of a new and strong government, there will some constitutional amendments to the election law that identify the largest political bloc and opposing ones. This is ti ensure that whoever becomes part of the government, it is done through transparent and legal means.”

Soundbite (Ihsan Al-Shamari – Head of Al-Tafkir Political Center):

“Muqtada Al-Sadr pushed for the formation of national consensus government until he won against the The Coordination Framework by hindering it through Parliament. He aims to drive The Coordination Framework away and succeed in forming a national consensus government they will not interfere with.”
