Storyline
Fatima Fayyad was inspired by the farms around her home to start her project of selling handmade art pieces. She collects wood from the farms and transforms it into artifacts.
Fatima, who made the yard of the house a wood-cutting workshop, makes pieces according to seasons and annual holidays and then promotes them through social media.
She is looking forward to owning her tools instead of renting them, to help her continue her work, which has become her source of living.

- (SOUNDBITE) Fatima Fayyad – Craftswoman:
“I was inspired by the farms in my area. I like this work despite the difficulties I faced and even if it’s known to be for men. I continue with this project because there are many olive and lemon trees that I can make use of. All the houses in Gaza own art pieces made of wood. As for the stages of work, I get the raw pieces of wood and put chemicals on it to preserve it from decay and mold, and then I cut the wood according to the shape I want to work with, then at the end comes the stage of painting.”
- (SOUNDBITE) Fatima Fayyad – Craftswoman:
“The equipment is not always available; I rent it from the carpentry. People initially criticized me; it is very rare to hear a compliment. I promote my products through Social media platforms. I take advantage of holiday seasons to promote my products.”
