“I wish all the women of the world a happy Women’s Day. I ask the Kurdistan government, to support women. The prophet Muhammad said, “Treat women in a kind and good manner.” I ask all men to preserve women’s rights.”

  • (SOUNDBITE) Sarbest Tawfik – Peace Movement:

“We celebrate Women’s Day and support Iraqi and Kurdish women. However, the killing of women is an inhuman phenomenon that emerged in Kurdistan. The killing of women or even men doesn’t exist in the Qur’an.”

  • (SOUNDBITE) Shobu Mustafa – Director of Relations of the Kurdistan Women Union:

“We call for an end for the killing of women. Two months ago, more than 10 women were killed, but the murder cases were completely neglected and there is not even an attempt to find the perpetrator. We demand social justice and laws activation to stop this phenomenon.”
