 Storyline:

Mongolia has found a new strong market in China after official talks with Beijing come to fruition. The country houses up to 50 flour mills with a capacity of 943 thousand tons of wheat per year. Mongolia’s average domestic demand for wheat is 280,000 tons a year, and this year it has harvested 60,000 tons more. Ts. Bolorchuluun, who is the head of the Policy and Planning Department of the Ministry of Food and Light Industry, said that they expect to increase their wheat cultivation and earn some income from flour exports in the next four years. He added that farmers will have the opportunity to exploit the situation and grow wheat, regardless of wheat sales. He said that Mongolia’s flour mills can grind more than a million tons of wheat.

“Mongolia and China had agreed on a quarantine protocol for the export and import of goods.  In this context, starting from 2017, experts from the General Administration of Customs of the People’s Republic of China came to Mongolia to work on quarantine control over the import of rye and wheat flour grown in Mongolia and to work on our flour mills. On December 24, 2021, the General Administration of Customs of the People’s Republic of China approved the import of rye and wheat flour from 12 well-known factories.”

(Soundbite) Ts.  Bolorchuluun – Head of Policy and Planning Department, Ministry of Food and Light Industry:

“So, after official talks between the two countries, we will be able to export flour.  This means that Mongolia has the full potential to supply its domestic market and then export the wheat surplus. We have a full range of export opportunities to increase the yield per hectare.  Farmers see a full opportunity to grow wheat, regardless of wheat sales. Our flour mills can grind more than a million tons of wheat.  Therefore, we have a good chance to earn a certain amount of income by exporting wheat flour.”

(Soundbite) G.  Naranbayar, the manager of the House Flour Mill

“Our mill house was established in 2009.  It is now in its 13th year of operation. We are implementing MNS ISO9001 or quality management system MNS ISO22000 or food safety system. We can receive 60,000 tons of raw materials per year.  Recently, Mongolia visited China.  A flour export tender was held. Our organization has passed this competition. We are glad that Mongolia has an opportunity to export flour to China.”
