Birthing and postpartum beds have been renovated and replaced as part of a healthcare renovation project across Mongolia, a country in East Asia.

The new bed system delivers safety, comfort and convenience for the mother, baby, and caregivers throughout the country. 

For example, 496 beds that were not qualified with a modern standard at the National Center for Maternal and Child Health of Mongolia have been completely replaced.

In addition, a total of 45 billion MNT has been projected to be invested in the expansion of the Reproductive Consultant Polyclinic and the Child Consultant Polyclinic, as well as the overhaul of all buildings in the Center that have not been fully renovated since its opening in 1987.

The National Center for Maternal and Child Health now provides four types of surgeries and treatments that were not available in Mongolia before due to equipment upgrades.

Within this year, the Maternal and Child Health Hospital plans to renovate its maternity wards to meet the standards of developed countries.

D. Altankhuyag , head of the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department at Bayankhongor province Hospital, said the hospital received 6 birthing beds, 40 postpartum beds and a portable device as part of the renovation project.

D. Saruul, a new mother at the Bayankhongor province Hospital, commended the project, saying the birthing beds are now very comfortable and low with a protection system and convenient shelve for eating and drinking.’

‘’ The maternity ward of Bayankhongor province hospital is established 80 years ago. A three-story maternity building with 50 beds which we work today was built in 2006. Our department has a total of 43 doctors and staff and provides labour and birth care to the residents of Bayankhongor province. More than 90% of the total new mothers of the province (around 1,700 – 2,000 per year) gave birth here. We received and updated 6 birthing beds, and 40 postpartum beds in our ward due to the renovation project of all maternity beds across the country. Also, the portable device which we needed has been provided while Minister of Health, S. Enkhbold was working in Bayankhongor province.’’

‘’ I gave birth here before in 2017. At that time there were old beds which is very high and uncomfortable to climb on.  Now, the bed was very comfortable, low, and has protection preventing baby falls of it, and the shelve which is convenient for eating and drinking.’’
