Washington – United States 04/03/2019

Mardi Gras festivities kicked off today in the Wharf in Washington. Mardi Gras, also known as “Fat Tuesday” refers to the events of the Carnival celebration, beginning after the Christian feasts of the Epiphany, and culminating on the day before Ash Wednesday. “Fat Tuesday” reflects the practice of the last night of eating rich, fatty foods before the ritual fasting of the Lenten season. In the US, this day is celebrated by giving colorful necklaces to the public in carnivals, while drums are banged in colorful parades that demonstrate the joy of the day. It is worth mentioning that the annual Mardi Gras was originally celebrated in New Orleans, where the celebrations usually begin at 8 in the morning and continue until midnight, however the occasion is now being celebrated in Washington too for the second year in a row.
