Muslim community in Virginia, USA, performed Eid prayer at Dar Al-Hijrah Mosque, within the context of tolerance and solidarity among Muslims. There was a large turnout at the Mosque this year, the management was forced to divide Eid prayer into parts so that all attendees could participate, especially after two years of absence due to pandemic restrictions. After performing Eid prayer, people went to places that sell sacrificial animals.

US President Joe Biden congratulated Muslims in the United States, and around the world, on Eid al-Adha, he wished them a blessed Eid and accepted Hajj pilgrimage. He posted on Twitter, “To all those across the United States and around the world celebrating Eid al-Adha, Jill and I wish you and your loved ones a joyous holiday filled with community, celebration, compassion, and service. Eid Mubarak and Hajj Mabroor!.”

Soundbite (Farhan Siddiqi – Imam of Dar Al-Hijrah Mosque):

“Eid this year is wonderful. People of different nationalities came to the mosque to perform Eid prayer. The mosque was overcrowded with people, we divided Eid prayer into five or six parts, so everyone could participate in it.”

Soundbite (Mohsen Rajeh – Worshiper in Dar Al-Hijrah Mosque):

“Families are all keen to perform Eid rituals, and make visits to friends and relatives, as they would in the Arab world. We gathered yesterday, I was happy to see so many family members. We had Iftar (breaking fast) together after The Day of Arafah fasting, It was a fun day. All members of Muslim community in the US are able to perform their rituals freely, with comfort and ease. After performing Eid prayer, we went to buy Eid sacrifice, which some people distribute all of, while others keep third and give the rest to the needy.”
