Libya – Deterioration of the healthcare sector in Sirte

The remnants of war are still evident in Sirte till this day. The healthcare sector is deteriorating and the healthcare services provided to patients are inadequate. In addition to that, there is a shortage in medical supplies, medications and healthcare facilities. Almost 30 hospitals and healthcare centers were destroyed and suffered infrastructure damages as a result of the war between Al-Bonyan Al-Marsous forces and ISIS in Sirte that increased the magnitude of suffering. Dr. Khalifa Sawy, director of health services in Sirte stated that the destroyed hospitals have not yet been repaired and rehabilitated. He added that the healthcare sector is suffering even more due to the lack of funding as there hasn’t been a budget for the sector since 2018.
