Libya – People of Benghazi agree on holding elections soon

The people of Benghazi city, which overlooks the Mediterranean Sea, believe that it is necessary to hold the presidential and parliamentary elections very soon and that elections should not be put off like before due to the security situation and the fight against armed groups that rule many areas in Libya. This comes after the elections that were scheduled to be held in the beginning of December were suspended. As part of the UN plan for support in Libya in 2019, the elections were rescheduled after the National Conference to be conducted next spring. At the same time, the people of Benghazi believe that it is important that the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Marshal Khalifa Haftar, be in charge of the elections, especially as the country goes through a challenging phase.
