Libya – The repercussions of the political crisis on frozen Libyan funds

Despite the storm recently raised in the Belgian media about the disappearance of about 10 billion euros of Libyan funds frozen by Brussels after the events of 2011 by a resolution of the UN Security Council at the request of the National Transitional Council at the time, but this was denied through statements by the Ministry of Finance and the Belgian government, and it was confirmed that these funds are still present and frozen in the Belgian banks. According to economic analyst Wahid al-Jabou, the economic and political crises pose a danger to these funds, which is the biggest obstacle to the release of Libya’s frozen assets abroad before they are lost in states for an alleged reason or other. He also called on the Libyan political forces to reach a political solution to the crisis in the country to lift the ban on frozen funds.
