Storyline
The travel sector has been affected by the implication of the pandemic, such as the closure of airports, the obligation to conduct PCR tests, and most recently; obtaining the International Certificate of Vaccination.
People stand in long queues in a few centers designated for issuance of this certificate, bringing their passport and a personal photo and they pay 30,000 Iraqi dinars.
The Ministry of Health has opened centers to issue the international certificate in all health departments in Baghdad, and any citizen can obtain it.

- (SOUNDBITE) Ahmed Kanaan – Doctor:
“People in other governorates don’t need to come to the centers located in Baghdad, they can apply online. They fill in their information and then we contact them. We also can deliver the certificate to them. Everything is normal and done smoothly.”
- (SOUNDBITE) Mohammed Thaer – Medical Laboratory Technician:
“The required documents are the passport, the vaccine card, and a personal photo. The issuance of the certificate doesn’t take long, and it can be done online through the Iraq Bus application. It is approved throughout the countries, and is used by the Iraqi citizens.”
- (SOUNDBITE) Amjad Hassan-Citizen:
“I came here to issue a medical travel card, which is mandatory for travel starting from April 1, 2022. The PCR test has been canceled. You just need this certificate. You can pay and obtain it online.”
- (SOUNDBITE) Massar Ziyad – employee in the consulting laboratory:
“We can issue the card if the card’s information matches the information on the platform. In case the person obtained a single dose only, or an error occurred, we cannot issue the certificate, because there is no authority to amend or add doses. We are only here just to issue the certificate. In such cases, the citizen should visit the same health center where they received the vaccine to amend their data, and then we can issue a card.”
