Storyline

A school in Gaza organized an exhibition for 240 students, to present their scientific projects, and to compete in competitions in several fields under the supervision of engineers with whom the school cooperates to support its students.

The exhibition included a competition for robots, some of which were made for the first time in Palestine, using a 3D printer, in addition to software projects, and others related to space sciences, such as the James Telescope competition.

In an attempt by some students to alleviate the suffering of the residents of the Gaza Strip with electricity, they were able to make a device to generate electricity from solar energy.

  • (SOUNDBITE) Um, Khaled Murtaji – Project Supervisor:

“Today, 240 students are participating in this exhibition in several fields, including robot competition. This is the first time we witness such an event in Palestine. The robots used by students were all manufactured inside the school, using a 3D printer. We also have a software projects section, in which nearly 65 students participated. In the science corner, we present projects related to the Coronavirus. We also have corners where mobile hydraulic-powered robots are displayed.”

  • (SOUNDBITE) Lamar Abu Al-Hunud – Robot designer:

“My colleague Yara and I have made a robot called “Baby Robot”. This achievement has been done in Palestine for the first time. Our school has been teaching us all these sciences since we were young. The robot can be treated as a human. It walks and moves and can measure the degree of your happiness.”

  • (SOUNDBITE) Radwan Al Rayes – Participant in the James Telescope competition:

“I am participating in the James Space Telescope competition, whose mission is to explore the universe by infrared. It can show us the beginning of the formation of the universe, 13.8 billion light-years ago.”

  • (SOUNDBITE) Mustafa Negm – Innovator of the Mobile Solar Device:

“I completed this project for tracking solar energy, and I chose this field because many Gazans suffer from electricity outages. My project tracks the sun to get the largest amount of watts.”
