Syria: Hunting Falcons in Al-Hasakah Governorate is a Great Source of Money
Syria – Al-Hasakah Governorate 12/12/2020
Hunters of falcons start hunting from September to December. During fall, falcons migrate through specific routes; one of which begins from Qamishli and heads to the Raqqa countryside. Most of the birds migrate from Iran, including the most expensive and rare species such as the free Persian falcon. Al Hamid is a skilled hunter in Sophia Village in Qahtani, who hunted down a rare white Persian falcon. Most hunters rely on using a net mounted in front of the bait (a bird), so when the falcon catches the prey, his legs got caught in the net and then fall. These falcons are then sold to traders.
