Turkey – First Friday prayer in Hagia Sophia in 86 years

The first Friday prayer was held today at the Great Hagia Sophia Mosque in Istanbul for the first time in 86 years after it was transformed into a museum in the presence of a large number of worshippers, where prayers were read through loudspeakers in the minarets of the mosque, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who has been criticized by religious and political leaders, joined the worshippers, the building was built 1,500 years ago and is on the UNESCO World Heritage List, was converted into a museum in 1934, but Turkey’s Supreme Court overturned the decision to convert Hagia Sophia into a museum, saying it should become a mosque.
