United States – Protests in Washington over Floyd killing coincide with end of slavery anniversary

In conjunction with the anniversary of the Day of American-African Freedom from Slavery, which falls on the nineteenth of June every year in the midst of a wave of unrest sparked by the killing of George Floyd, hundreds protested in the American capital, Washington, demanding the cessation of government financial support to the police due to the repeated acts of violence and racist practices against African Americans the protesters held banners reading “The lives of blacks are important” and others demanding justice and an end to racism in the country.
