Palestine – A Palestinian family converts palm fronds into artistic products
Gaza, Palestine 25/09/2019
The Palestinian young man Salman Al-Manayaah and his mother are one of those who have practiced the old folk professions in the Gaza Strip. Among the professions they have made is the “Khawassa” (Palm Craft), which has been virtually eroded by technological advances and by the declining desire of many to buy products made of reeds and palm fronds. Salman spends a lot of time in making baskets and handicrafts from palm fronds such as hand fan (Mahfah), dining table, mats and pots of various sizes, shapes and colors to suit customers’ taste. His products have received wide attention from its pioneers, and these products also generate money in light of the difficult economic conditions suffered by the people of the Gaza Strip.
