Somalia – Warnings of involving Al-Shabaab loyalists in the upcoming elections

After the response of the representatives of the tribes who elected the deputies of the Somali parliament to invite Al-Shabaab to come to the areas under its control and declare repentance. Analysts warned against involving the movement’s loyalists in the upcoming elections as this would create a crisis of confidence between the government and the citizens and negatively affect the electoral process. They also pointed out that the direct impact of the movement on tribal elders may help them later to cause a security and political imbalance within the state.
