Somalia – Somali sculptor creates jewelry out of camel bones
Mogadishu – Somalia 24/04/2019
Somali sculptor Abdul Karim Abu Bakr Osman has a small workshop for recycling bones near his home in Hamar Jabjab district, Mogadishu, where he uses camel bones to create antiques and jewelry such as necklaces, rings and rosaries. Abdul Karim, who learned this craft from his ancestors, stated that traditional crafts in Somalia lack the necessary support by the government, which puts it at risk of extinction, especially since they do not get displayed at art galleries, but only sold in stores that sell traditional crafts in Mogadishu.
