Somalia – Deteriorating security situation in Mogadishu
Mogadishu – Somalia 30/03/2019
Security concern in Mogadishu is increasing after experiencing over 10 bombings in one week across various areas, the latest of which was a local restaurant on Makkah Al-Mukarramah street in the capital city center. In addition to that, breaking into government buildings and hotels resulting in the death and injury of dozens of civilians and government officials, as well as several security forces when the government security agencies haven’t announced the results to the investigations of the bombings. Some observers consider the deteriorating security situation a result of the Somali government’s inability to pay the salaries of army personnel who in return abandoned their posts and did not confront the youth responsible for the bombings. This will contribute in supporting the opposition and increasing the vulnerability of the current government. Somalia’s army chief of staff, General Odawaa Yusuf Rageh emphasized the need to be rigorous in responding to terrorist groups who seek the bloodshed of civilians.
