Tunisia – Press conference on violations against children

The National Union of Tunisian Women held a press conference in the capital Tunis to shed a light on the violations practiced against children, including sexual assaults in the educational sector and the newborns deaths incident that took place in a government hospital. The conference was attended by a number of government officials in several ministries that are interested in childhood, namely the Ministry of Education, the ministry of Family Affairs and the Ministry of Justice. During the conference, the participants emphasized the need to enact legislations and laws to ensure the children’s safety and protect them from falling victims to any kind of abuses and violations, whether sexual assaults or economic violations, like using children for labor or begging. The conference sent a wake-up call to the citizens and encouraged them to cooperate with the authorities and report any violations against children.
