Palestine – Orphans of Gaza appeal for lifting the siege
Gaza-Palestine 03/02/2019
Hundreds of orphaned children gathered in front of Beit Hanoun (Erez) checkpoint in the north of Gaza to send a “distress call” for the international community to lift the siege that has been enforced on the Strip and reopen the crossings. The participating children carried signs that hold both the Palestinian President, Mahmoud Abbas, and the Israeli occupation responsible for the tragedy they are experiencing. The Director of the Islamic Charitable Society, Ramez Gharabawi, emphasized the need to put orphaned children aside from starvation policy, stressing that such policies intend to humiliate orphans and deny them a dignified life. Al-Gharbawi also suggested opening bank accounts for NGOs, in order to reactivate their roles in supporting Palestinian people and poor families.
