Storyline:

Residents of several areas in Al-Hodeidah, western Yemen, travel long distances to fetch water, using a rope and bucket to draw water from the deep well.

With the start of summer and rising temperatures, the need for water doubles, forcing people to go more than once to get enough water for their daily use.

Shot list:

Soundbite (Yassin Wasel – Yemeni man):

“We suffer the long distance in the summer. We get tired of drawing water from the well, especially since we need large quantities of water. This well is the closest to us so you find a lot of people here.”

Soundbite (Ismail Ibrahim- Yemeni man):

“We suffer from the long distance, as we sometimes travel for more than three kilometers to get water, with having to repeat this process more than three or four times a day to secure a sufficient amount of water for our need. The long distance is very tiring and we use a rope and bucket to draw water from the deep well that is sometimes thirty-two meters deep.”
