Storyline

The Opera Theater of Tunis commemorated the 100th birthday of late musician Wadih El-Safi who is considered a legend in Arab and Lebanese music. Antoine Al-Safi, Aya Daghnouj and Mohammad Saeed performed with The Tunisian Symphony Orchestra and National Music Band conducted by maestro Yousef Balhani. The event was a huge success although some criticized Antoine saying he monopolized the event performing most of the songs.

Soundbite (Antoine Al-Safi – Musician and son of late Wadih El-Safi):
“The people of Tunisia are musically refined, Tunisia is brimming with talent and quality performances. It was an event filled with love, music and splendor.”

Soundbite (Ali Al-Wartani – Music critic):
“We should pay homage to Wadih El-Safi here in Tunis because he loved Tunisia that he visited many times and his late wife was Tunisian. His songs are timeless and epochal in Arab music. Almost 90% of his songs were performed by Antoine Al-Safi, which made me want to hear the singing of Aya Daghnouj and future of music Mohammad Saeed. Antoine said to promote young talent in Tunisia, I told him that Aya Daghnouj and Mohammad Saeed are not young talent but master artists who deserve to be recognized across the Arab world.”

Soundbite (Aya Daghnouj – Tunisian artist):
“The invitation made me very excited to be reunited with mister Antoine who is kin to Wadih

El-Safi. Singing Wadih El-Safi songs is a huge responsibility in addition to singing with National Music Band maestro Yousef Balhani. Thankfully, the performance was a success and the audience enjoyed their time.”
Soundbite (Yousef Balhani – Maestro):
“We worked very hard on this performance and thankfully the event was successful.”
