Storyline
Security forces in northern and eastern Syria seized huge quantities of Captagon in Qamishli, which is considered the largest smuggling operation of narcotics in the region.
Internal Security Forces estimated the amount of Captagon at about 438 kilograms, consisting of more than 2,570,580 pills hidden in ceramic and granite tiles.
Security forces said that these substances entered northern and eastern Syria through the areas of smugglers’ groups, to be transferred to neighboring countries.
Internal Security confirmed that some of these substances had already reached neighboring countries through a critical smuggling operation, but they were able to seize this quantity in warehouses.

- (SOUNDBITE) Ali Al-Hassan – Official Spokesman for the Internal Security Forces in North and East Syria:
“There are external parties try to drain our areas by all means, including smuggling narcotics into our areas to target the social structure and strike the values of society, in addition to their attempt to use the geographical location of our areas as a transit point to smuggle their substances to other countries. We received information about the introduction of a large number of narcotic pills into our regions, hidden in granite and ceramic tiles in professional ways. During the research and collection of information, our forces were able to seize shipments of pills in a warehouse for construction materials containing large quantities of granite, basalt, and ceramic tiles. The quantity of the substance amounted to 438 kilograms, estimated at 2,570,580 narcotic pills.”
