Storyline
Jordanians headed to polling stations to cast their votes to elect their representatives in municipal and governorate councils Tuesday morning. A total of 4,646 candidates, 845 of which are women, are competing for the presidency of 1,325 seats for Municipal and governorate councils and the Amman Municipality. The number of voters in Jordan is 4,599,602 including 2,163,259 males and 2,436,343 females. The elections are monitored by 5,048 observers representing 18 local and 10 foreign parties. Also, 55,000 security officers were deployed to protect the electoral process, whose preliminary results will be announced after the polls close on Tuesday evening, while the final results are expected to be announced tomorrow, Wednesday.
