(SOUNDBITE) Maysara Atyani – Palestinian and activist in the General Union of Palestinian Women:

“This regional forum gives us the opportunity to raise our voice and address our issues. Tunisian women are an example of progress and achievement. However, the oppression the Palestinian women face is worse as they are deprived their rights and suffer from the occupation that eliminates any hope for progress land ownership effort. Palestine women face terrorism and intimidation. Today, we presented paperwork on the extent to which women can access their rights to own land. We also demand Palestinian women’s full right to inherit, work and defend themselves against the occupation.”

(SOUNDBITE) Naela Zoghlami – President of Tunisian Association of Democratic Women:

“This regional forum addresses social justice issues and women’s access to land ownership. It also discusses the conditions of work in farms, unsafe transportation of female farmers, deprivation of their right to own the land on which they work, and social inequality, especially in terms of wages.”
