Storyline
Tunis hosted yesterday, Monday, the Libyan-Tunisian-Algerian Conference to discuss ways to transition towards a free and digital economy in Africa. Local and international experts in addition to some institutes from public and private sectors of the three countries participated in the event. The conference aimed to highlight the importance of a free and digital economy in economic growth and to unify strategic visions between the three countries to form an economic bloc that enhances their presence in the African market. Also, the three countries sought to develop partnership and joint cooperation in setting export and marketing strategies that pave the way towards investment opportunities, such as building new ports on the Mediterranean Sea. Other six workshops will be organized to tackle the issues of legal and regulatory standards, banks’ role in supporting digital and free economy projects, in addition to investment in information technology, intra-African trade, and international cooperation to support the new type of economy. According to official figures, Africa’s exports account for 572 million USD, and 450 million USD for imports, while the intra-African trade does not exceed 15 percent.
