Syria- Launching a Special Department for Manufacturing Prosthetic Limbs for War Amputee
In the war-ridden region, the National Hospital in Al-Raqqah launched a special department for manufacturing prosthetic limbs to meet the rising number of amputees who lost their limbs in the war-induced landmines, airstrikes, or from chronic diseases. A prosthetic limbs department was launched two years ago but back then, it didn’t manufacture artificial limbs. The department provides its services to the regional residents for free, given the high costs of these limbs. In a survey, the center receives about 500 patients on monthly basis. Officials at the department shed light on the unstable psychological status of its patients, indicating that dealing with such cases isn’t easy as those patients need time to get used to their new reality
