Tunisia –Tunisians’ purchasing power drops to the lowest level

The Consumer Defense Organization and experts in Tunisia stated that Tunisians’ purchasing power has dropped by 40% in recent years, owing to the escalation in the prices of goods, especially food, which has reached the 100%, while other products approached 200%. Tunisia is witnessing a suffocating economic crisis with the debts rise, an economic downturn of 8.8% in 2020, and a budget deficit reaching 11.4% of the gross product, meanwhile it has started talks with the IMF regarding a financial assistance package.
