Palestine: Gaza Workers Organize a Sit-in To Mark the Labour Day

Unlike their counterparts, Palestinian workers marked Labour Day by organizing a sit-in nearby the Palestinian General Federation of Trade Unions to rally against the unprecedented unemployment rate that was spurred by the outbreak of Coronavirus. The bulk of the workers have lost their jobs after the country declared a state of emergency in the mid of 2020 that entailed shutting down most productive enterprises, restaurants, hotels, and other sectors. The Palestinian General Federation of Trade Unions’ member- Mohammad Hamdan illustrated that the unemployment rate surged to a rate of 80% while the total number of unemployed workers hit a new number of 230 thousand workers
