Iraq: Demands to Abrogate Algiers Agreement between Baghdad and Tehran

Former deputies and political experts in Iraq called for abrogating the 1975 Algiers Agreement between Baghdad and Tehran concerning the use of frontier watercourses. Negotiation and Conflict Resolution lawyer, Khaled Al-Naqshbandi illustrated that the Iraqi government should immediately take action to ensure retaining its rights in the river’s water flow originating in Iran. The former deputy of the Iraqi Parliament, Ashwaq Al Jaff warned of an imminent water catastrophe in Kurdistan after Iran has cut off the water supply from the Sirwan and Little Zab rivers, the primary sources of livelihood for nearly two million people.
