Mongolia – The misery of herders amid Corona pandemic
One-third of Mongolia’s population numbering around 3 million and 300 thousand work as herders. They still stick to their nomadic culture and traditions and sell dairy products, wool, cashmere, and raw hides and skins. By the beginning of 2020 and the outbreak of the pandemic, 65% of aimags faced the risk of dzud and many herders lost their livestock due to the lockdown imposed on aimags and soums to prepare fodder for livestock besides the Inadequate relief efforts.
