Palestine – Iron recycling, small income for job seekers in Gaza

Hundreds of Palestinians in Gaza work in unusual occupations that emerged a few years ago, such as recycling of construction materials of buildings that Israel demolished in its repeated attacks on the Strip, which contributed to holding workshops in modifying iron rods and turning concrete into small pebbles, to be reutilized in the construction of buildings and roads. Abu Diaa Salem states that the career that has become popular, has got affected by the siege imposed on Gaza, the tight measures by Israeli authorities, and the repeated closures of the Kerem Shalom crossing, adding that most construction materials recycling workshops lacks workplace safety which dangers workers’ lives.
