Many young people in the Gaza Strip motivated by moral and humanitarian responsibility started a voluntary initiative called Hirak 444, it is a youth movement to illuminate 4444 poor homes with alternative lights in the central regions by volunteer groups of 44 members to work in a period of maximum of 4444 hours to rid the impoverished Gaza Strip homes of permanent darkness by installing “lead” safe lighting system to challenge the Israeli siege and alleviate the suffering of the citizens due to the worsening electricity crisis. The initiative came after the death of 3 children from Alhindi family in western Gaza coast.

It is noted that the electricity crisis continues in the Gaza Strip for the tenth year in a row because of the continued Israeli blockade on the Gaza Strip with the increased intensity after the imposition of a government tax on fuel coming to the power stations.
