Lebanon: In “The Widow Camp” for Syrian Displaced women, No Men are Allowed In
Beqaa Valley -Lebanon 08/12/2020
In Beqaa Valley in Lebanon, between Bar Elias and Haouch El Oumaraa, a women-only camp was established dubbed “the widow camp”. Displaced Syrian women indicated that their decision to stay in such a camp, where men aren’t allowed in, was to save themselves from sexual abuses witnessed in the other camps. The area is about 1,200 square meters, and it includes 30 caravans used as residential rooms for displaced women. In the past, women stayed without paying for rent and other facilities. However, in 2020, the camp’s administration started requiring 1200$ as rent, forcing women into looking for jobs outside the camp
