Syria- War-Torn Raqqa Revives its Historical Landmarks After ISIS Atrocities
Raqqa- Syria 02/10/2020
ISIS atrocities weren’t limited to displacing thousands in Raqqa, but also historical landmarks and museums were looted and ruined. Qasr al-Banat (Girls castle), built in 772, was among those places that were partially demolished. Moreover, monuments underwent digging operations, looting, and vandalism. Abandonment and negligence transformed the area into a landfill. Accordingly, the Committee on Culture and Antiquities in the Raqqa Civil Council is working on a project to preserve historical landmarks from vandalism or distortion, as well as to restore its cultural charter
