Syria: Under the Patronage of the Syrian Regime, Hezbollah ‘s Drug Trafficking Business Flourishes

In light of the chaos and absence of control in the areas-held by the Syrian regime, Hezbollah and Iranian militias have turned Syria into a drug market. The situation wasn’t different when the Syrian opposition was in control of Daraa. Hezbollah and Iranian militias took advantage of their presence in southern Syria and expanded their drug trafficking business to reach Jordan and Saudi Arabia. It is worth mentioning that by drug trafficking those militias fund their operations. Moreover, their leverage in the regime-held areas may have exceeded the authority of the security forces. With the complicity of some security officers, such business has flourished.
