After Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan issued a presidential decree requiring the conversion of the Hagia Sophia, one of the most famous historical monuments in the city of Istanbul, to a mosque, the decision was very welcome to the citizens, as they see in the Hagia Sophia a historical legacy and trust from Sultan Mehmed the Conqueror that must be preserved, and it is reported that the Hagia Sophia has It was built in the sixth century AD as a temple, then it was transformed into a church for about 900 years, then it was converted into a mosque in 1453 when the Muslims, led by Muhammad Al-Fateh, entered Istanbul and remained as a mosque until the year 1934, as it was converted into a museum by decision of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, founder the modern Turkish state.
