Iraq- Feminist protests in Baghdad
Baghdad- Iraq 13/02/2020
Women launched mass protests in Baghdad and a number of governorates of Iraq, in response to calls that spread several days ago on social networking sites under the hashtag #Banatak-Ya-Watan, where activists called for a “violet and pink protest” in an affirmation of standing beside men to support the popular movement and demonstrate the role of Iraqi women and insist on the implementation of the demands of the protesters, and women called on the United Nations to intervene immediately to protect women and protesters from repression, kidnapping and continued killing. It is noteworthy that the leader of the Sadrist movement, Muqtada al-Sadr, had called in a previous tweet for him not to mix between the sexes in the sit-in tents and protest squares.
