Somalia – U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) office opens in Mogadishu

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) opened its office in the Somali capital Mogadishu for the first time in nearly 30 years, in the attendance of the agency’s director, the US ambassador to Somalia and the prime Minister of Somalia, along with a number of officials from both sides, the USAID director , Mark Green, announced that agency has made a contribution of 185 million dollars to meet humanitarian needs in Somalia and implement development projects to help Somalis, the Somali Prime Minister Hassan Ali Khairi stressed that the opening of the office was in response to a request by the Somali Government at a meeting in Washington to deliver U.S. assistance directly to the Somali people, adding that the move confirms that the Somali-US relations are in an unpresented phase .
