Somalia – Government grants Tuna fishing licenses to support fishermen
Mogadishu – Somalia 14/05/2019
In mid-2018, the Somali government granted Chinese-owned fishing ships licenses to allow them to fish tons of tuna fish in the Somali territorial waters, which raised a lot of controversy in the Somali society. A few days ago, the Somali federal government held a conference on fisheries in Garowe, capital of the Puntland, east of Somalia, and it was attended by many Somali officials and businessmen in Puntland, and for the first time since the central government was ousted, the Somali Ministry of Fish and Livestock announced granting licenses for tuna fishing in neighboring countries, as part of a series of continuous efforts to support fishermen in Somalia.
