Bariire- Shabeellaha Hoose – Somailia 13/05/2019

The wars that took place between al-Shabaab Movement and the Somali army took a heavy toll on life in Somalia, especially in Bariire village, Shabeellaha Hoose, Somailia, which was one of the battle grounds for the fights between Al-Shabaab Movement on the one hand and the Somali tribes, the African Union (AMISOM) and the US forces on the other hand. Although these battles have come to an end and Bariire has been liberated from al-Shabaab, but according to the people of the village, the physical and psychological damage that was inflicted upon them is hard to forget. They also stated that many of the village’s women were subjected to harassment and the Somali Government failed to provide them with the necessary attention after they were taken to hospitals in the capital Mogadishu. They added that their living conditions have been extremely challenging as Al-Shabaab has taken control over the farms in Bariire and shut down the main roads that connect the village to Gnali and Afgoye. They appealed to the government to put an end to their misery and enable them to cultivate their agricultural land to earn a livelihood.
