Somalia – Lack of services and child labor negatively impact the educational process

Children in Somalia are enduring a decline in the quality of social services they receive from the government, including basic education, which is an essential need for thousands of children who live in refugee camps in Mogadishu’s suburbs Suad Mohammed, who is a teacher at a school in Mustaqeem camp, which is 18 km away from the capital, stated that many parents send their children to beg for money or to work in order to help them in earning a livelihood, which in turn impacts their ability to focus on the educational process and therefore negatively impacts their performance at school. She also pointed out to the lack of school supplies, and the damaged infrastructure in so many schools in the displacement camps.
