Mogadishu – Somalia 08/04/2019

The Tuk-tuk vehicle has become widely used as a form of transport in Somalia, where the capital Mogadishu’s current situation makes it the most convenient form of transport, since it is able to take the subways when the capital’s main streets are closed. The estimated tax revenues for the municipality of Mogadishu are nearly 19 million dollars, since the municipality imposed a $15 tax per month on Tuk-tuk drivers, which makes them struggle with the government forces, especially traffic police and the Department of Taxation in the capital, where 19 Tuk-tuk drivers were killed by government forces over the past year and the first three months of this year, which means that the risk faced by tuk-tuk drivers from the government forces is increasing significantly.
