Somalia – Pregnant women endure hardships in camps due to security measures
Mogadishu- Somalia 02/04/2019
Pregnant women in Mogadishu’s displaced camps have many concerns that are increasingly growing due to the major risks surrounding pregnancy and childbirth, including the struggle to reach hospitals due to the security measures practiced in Mogadishu’s streets and suburbs, which have been almost entirely shut recently. Hundreds of Somali pregnant women endure so many hardships in displacement camps that lack the most basic necessities of life like food and health care, not to mention that these camps also lack the needed health centers to guarantee safe pregnancies and safe labors for pregnant women in the camps, which leaves them no choice but to resort to the traditional midwife, who is trained to assist women who give birth in the camps.
