Palestine – First female basketball academy in Gaza strip
Gaza – Palestine 16/03/2019
A Palestinian young man founded the “Basketball Stars Academy” concurrently with the month of “Mother’s Day” and “Women’s International Day”. This is the first female academy in Gaza as basketball was exclusive to men in the strip. The academy receives females between the ages of 4 and 20. The club currently has 60 female players. Females playing basketball is becoming increasingly popular and receiving great support from parents. The Academy’s founder, Ibrahim Sakik mentioned that the goal of the academy is to strengthen the females abilities in society through sport, especially that most females want to play basketball but are unable to find the right place. Therefore, we provided the place through the British International School that sponsored the concept. He also confirmed that the academy aims for the female players to obtain accredited certificates from the Palestinian Basketball Federation in order to represent the society and participate in Nationals.
