Tunis – Tunisia 17/01/2019
Tunisian General Labour Union called for thousands of public workers to participate in a general strike in all the sectors of education, transport, health, public administration and banking, airports and ports in all governorates of the country. Muhammad Ali al-Hami Square in the center of capital Tunis witnessed a protest by workers against the government’s refusal to meet the demands of raising wages and adjusting the citizen’s purchasing power in light of the price increase and dinar value decrease. It is worth mentioning that according to economists, the cost resulting from a general strike is about a 100 million dollars. In addition to that, the union will have escalation moves in case the government refuses to meet their economic and social demands of raising wages.
