Iraq – Hakim: Iraq supports Syria’s return to the Arab League

A joint press conference was held between the Iraqi Foreign Minister Mohammad Ali al-Hakim and the Iranian Foreign Minister, Mohammad Jawad Zarif, who arrived in Baghdad on Sunday, heading an official delegation. During the conference, Hakim said that his country supports efforts to restore Syria’s membership in the Arab League, adding that he had discussed bilateral political and economic relations of mutual concerns during talks with his Iranian counterpart, including unresolved issues like navigation in Shatt al-Arab and other issues related to land and water borders between the two countries. For his part, Zarif stressed his country’s support for Iraq’s efforts to restore Syria’s membership in the Arab League and boost cooperation between the two countries.
