Libya – Libyans’ views on the Palermo Convention

Many Libyan citizens are feeling hopeful and optimistic about the Palermo Convention, which was held by the Italian government in Palermo, south of Italy, in collaboration with the United Nations Mission in Libya. The head of the Libyan National Army, Marshal Khalifa Haftar, attended the convention along with the president of the Government of National Accord, Fayez Al-Sarraj and a number of state leaders. The convention was aimed at expanding efforts to establish stability in Libya and discuss the legislative and presidential elections. Some believed that this convention is a good step to find a political solution, and that it demonstrates the country’s real intention to resolve the Libyan crisis, while others believed that all the earlier conventions between the parties to the conflict in Libya never led to constructive outcomes, expressing their desire to enjoy stability in the country.
