The houses carved in the ground, known as the pits, are the architectural form that characterizes the city of Gharyan in northwestern Libya, which was taken by the residents earlier in their time to provide protection and thermal insulation throughout the year. Tourists are encouraged to visit the houses dug to a depth of 10 meters, which is part of the ancient history of Libya, dating back to 1666.
